Gray's Creek and the Lost Scissors

I was recently talking to someone about Gray's Creek and I remembered that I was really mean to Vince there this one time...

It was probably a Friday, since we usually went there with our families to have adventures on Firday afternoons. Vince had a sword and a pocket pair of scissors that day. When we were walking back to the parking lot I decided to take Vince's sword and throw it up in a tree. Yes, apparently I was an evil child! After he got it down with help from our mom's and other siblings, we continued to the car. I also took his scissors, but when it came time to actually leave I didn't have his scissors to give back! I did mean to give them back, but I lost them! I had no idea what happened to them. I felt bad. I just planned to take it and taunt him or something, but not actually lose them! Anyways, his mom said it was ok, but Vince was not happy. I wonder how much of a grudge he held against me... Vince, are you still upset that I lost your scissors? :P

Megan meets Mike

To begin with, I did not like Mike. Not at all. My sister would talk to him, and I told her to stay away. As far as I was concerned, he was annoying and useless. Clearly, I judge people very quickly.

Mike was sort of in the group I was in. And since he was in my grade and he sat near me in English class, I was had to socialize with him from time to time. He would sometimes come up to my locker and ask "How you doin'?". To which I would coldly snip, "Fine. And how are you?". I would find a way to leave promptly.

When Mike signed up to be on of the scriptwriters for our comtek movie, I was not impressed. I could not believe it. I thought that the whole thing was going to be comepletely dreadful. I did not know how I would survive the 5 months of class working closely beside him. (Little did I know at the time that I would be working for the next nine months, rather than five.)

I'm not sure exactly when things changed, but it was somewhere in the middle of those five months spent in comtek class. I first began to tolerate Mike. And then I began to see his strengths; he's loyal "as a dog", he works hard, he sees a project through to completion (something that was proving to be a rare commodity). Mike is also amusing, generous, and creative. Eventually I stopped disliking him, I had gotten to know him and found that he was not the person I thought. Now he is one of my very closest friends. Mike is also very often my psychiatrist and I think of him as part of my family. Quite the change from me rolling my eyes whenever he would walk up to me, eh?

Where it all began- On Guy Street

This story goes back to the beginning- to where all of it began- way, way back in time... (Vince you'll have to remind me of what year this was again- I keep forgetting)

It was the summer time and my mom and siblings went to visit another homeschooling family who lived relatively close to us on Guy Street. I think my younger siblings were loaded up in our wagon and brought to this family's house. The mom of the family apparently said we couldn't go inside, because they were selling their house. I didn't see what the big problem was. We were just a bunch of kids. What could we do?

So we kids played outside and the mothers talked. It had rained the night before so things that were outside were still wet and had little puddles. I can remember picking up a shark toy with a squeaker. I squeezed it under water of one of the newly made ponds on a blue Rubbermaid tote. I let go and it sucked up some water. Afterwards, squeezing the toy shark would produce a gurgling-squeak sound- much to my amusement. I think this attracted the attention of the other kids, and it was probably the ice-breaker for games and conversation between Vince and myself. From then on we had many, many adventures together growing up.

Philomena

So in our high school, as most comtek classes attempt to do, we produced a film. Well two actually. We did one in grade 11 that wasn't so great. Grade twelve though we had a solid story that was adapted from another story that I wrote with Mike and Julia in the summer of 2005. Philomena was a horror film that incorporated our newly built school but gave it a haunted past that was just ready to resurface. Megan directed that one, while I took on the roles of cinematographer and editor. Mike was our assistant director. Genevieve was one of our main actors. Megan Mike and Julia wrote the script while I came up with the concept. Megan and Julia also acted. So basically we pretty much did everything. Oh, and to add to that, Comtek being finished before pre-production for the film was finished, we pretty much took the project into our own hands. Which turned out for the best because it gave us total creative freedom. We can't forget our amazing Brigette who played the role of Philomena. She was the most dedicated actor we'd ever worked with. I'm currently working on another film with her and its great to work with her again. Philomena premiered for a couple hundred people in Cornwall in June of 2006. On Halloween night it played on local TV and it also won a place in an online festival on undergroundfilm.org. Later it was re-cut, and this version played at the 2008 Seaway Film Festival. Our Lovely Little Name

Well, it all began due to the fact that we were all conceived in the grand city of Montreal...

haha, actually no.

While working on our "school's" film Philomena (more on this later) , Megan, Mike, Vincent and I all became quite close. Julia also chilled with us but when we came up with this GRAND idea to all live in Montreal, she had other plans. We all thought it would be amazing and we figured we would go and visit Montreal for a few days in the summer. Mike's dad lives nearby so we stayed at his house and saved on the moola. We took a bazillion pictures, especially Megan and Vincent with the pigeon lady... lol. As well, even though all of us wanted to kill each other at the end (mainly we wanted to kill Vincent), we realized that we all complimented each other well. Megan with her annoyance, Vincent with his ... well, Vincentness, Mikey with his puns and humour, and me with the looks :P ... or maybe with my idiocy.

Anyways, we realized we worked well together during Philomena and enjoyed each others company throughout the trip. We somehow came up with the name the Montreal crew due to our trip and plan to live there and ever since that fateful summer, we've gone to Montreal every year together. :) We are a crazy bunch of people with unique families and I'm grateful for their friendship every day (except for Megan, I'm grateful every other day. hahaha.).

And THAT is how we came up with our beautiful name.

Keep it real gangstas,

Genshine
